A Farewell and Thank You from the San Antonio Ophthalmology Course
For more than 30 years, the San Antonio Ophthalmology Course (SAOC) has had the privilege of bringing together ophthalmologists, educators, and trainees from across the country to learn, teach, and connect. What began as a vision to provide a high-quality, comprehensive educational experience grew into a community dedicated to advancing the field of ophthalmology.

After much reflection, we have made the difficult decision to close the course.
While this chapter is coming to an end, we are deeply grateful for the extraordinary people who made SAOC what it has been for more than three decades.

We extend our sincere thanks to the many faculty members and guest speakers who generously shared their knowledge, experience, and passion for teaching. Your commitment to excellence helped shape generations of ophthalmologists.

We are especially grateful to our founders, Dr. William Lloyd and Dr. Mary O’Hara, whose vision and dedication established a course that would go on to serve the ophthalmology community for over thirty years.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Dr. Brett Davies, our fearless Course Director for more than a decade. Through his leadership, energy, and dedication, the course continued to thrive and evolve while staying true to its mission.

Most importantly, we thank the thousands of attendees—ophthalmologists, residents, fellows, and healthcare professionals—who joined us over the years. Your enthusiasm for learning, your engagement in discussion, and your commitment to patient care made this course truly special. SAOC was never just a meeting; it was a gathering of colleagues committed to improving the practice of ophthalmology.

To everyone who has been part of this journey—thank you. It has been our honor to serve this community for more than three decades.
With deep gratitude,
The San Antonio Ophthalmology Course Team
